According to this ebay page, protection for purchases now goes thru ebay and not paypal.  So, apparently, we no longer file a claim with paypal?

http://pages.ebay.com/coverage/index.html

"What happened to PayPal Buyer Protection?
PayPal Buyer Protection on eBay existed only for eBay customers who paid for their purchases through a PayPal account. Now purchase protection and issue resolution for your eBay purchases will be managed by eBay, for all eligible payment methods."

Ellen filed with Paypal. I didn't even read that link yet. Don't think I will. We just do our own thing. The person is no longer a registered user. Paypal works just fine.

I don't recall seeing that note on the listings before, so it looks like something new.  I wonder if they will phase out the ability to file with paypal at some point.  I have always preferred filing with paypal myself.

Maybe just another of the big changes ebay is making, the other being fee increases and changes again.

I think the notice just started appearing on  EBay yesterday, I was unaware that PayPal could be used to solve a problem - until Kevin informed me.

But all is well now. I sent Kevin the info he needed - Ellen went  to PayPal and got it taken care of for me . . .and I've already received notice from PayPal that they are looking into it.

They seem to do some pretty stupid stuff. I think they're trying to steer people away from doing a paypal chargeback? We'll see how it effects us?

They just came out with another thing for 100 free listings if you start them under $1. With the bidding action these days, that could kill you! Of course they charge a 9% fee if the item sells.  Frown I wish we didn't have to use them, but we have to use all possible sources of income generation. We're still in the black, if it ever becomes completely non-profitable, we're gone.

Exactly my thoughts when I noticed the 99 cent option.  Whoop tee doo!  Like I'd ever start something on ebay at 99 cents.  Never gonna happen!   I always start my auctions with a figure I can live with.

Unfortunately, ebay is still where the action is for many items.  I use it mainly for woodworking tools, as it's the only place they sell for me.    They got very low ratings from the "sellers" in the auction bytes survey, but the "buyers" mentality is still ebay.

Hopefully it was only a glitch. the email server is rarely down and only for a very short while. We've had more trouble in a few weeks than we have in 4years.
